Starting early
May 21, 2003
Hi Nelson,
The answer to this question may be obvious, but I'm asking anyway.
I'm pretty sure I have HIV, after a high risk exposure, I have had basically all of the symptoms, many persist. My weight loss is evident. I Have an increased appetite since 1 week after exposure, and I eat all the time, but I can't gain any lbs, which is very unusual for me. The scary thing is I have symptoms of lypodystrophy talked about by users of protease inhibitors. My legs, backside, arms and normally chubby face have all gotten thiner in only about 10 days and continued to today(22 days), while overeating has kept my overall weight from dropping too much. I'm not asking you to diagnose me or anything, but have you ever heard of this in such early stages? I thought that you might find that interesting since there has been some debate as to whether the lypo was HIV or drug related.
Anyway, I was just wondering if there was anything special I could do now to get a leg up on the fitness/nutrition aspect of life besides the usual (eat well, exercise, eliminate toxins/fat) Thank you for your time, god luck with everything.

Response from Mr. Vergel

I would make sure I am in HIV positive if I was you. Get tested and , if you want to go further, get a viral load test to make sure you are! There is a period of time that can go for several months when people are still seroconverting.
I would get my testosterone and thyroid hormone levels checked also. Your rapid weight loss could be caused by many things. You may want to ask your doctor for Oxandrin at 20 mg/day since it is approved for unintentional weight loss (for anyone, not only HIV poz people). Exercising with weights will be a good idea if you have stamina. I would say away from cardiovascular exercise until your weight comes up and normalizes.
You need a good doctor and to find out your status right away!
Nelson
