Stool parasites
Feb 27, 2002
I have had diarrhea problems and abdomen pains for almost a year now. The symptoms are sometimes disappearing for a few days (or weeks) but always come back. My stools ar mushy and loose, with undigested food particles. The doctor asked me to submit 3 stools samples. The following parasites were found in my stools samples:
Blastocystis hominis
Endolimax nana
Entamoaba hartmanni.
When I saw the doctor again he told me that I did not need any treatments since these parasites are considered nonpathogenic. However, I still have stomach pain and diarrhea and the doctor tells me it is probably cause by stress.
Can you give me a second opinion please.
Thanks in advance.

Response from Dr. Dieterich

If you have diarrhea and the parasites are there I don't see any reason not to try a treatment trial. I generally do for my patients. If you didn't have diarrhea, then I would not treat. I would also avoid milk and milk products. DTD
