loss of appetite
Jun 28, 1999
I have had little or no appetite for about 3 months. Eating is a chore. i was on treatment but because of toxicity and side effects are off for 2 weeks. have gone thru all protease inhibitors, going to try Agenrase soon plus two new drugs.tried marinol, but does not seem to help. Body composition is changing, skinny legs and arms, potty belly. I am not comsuming a lot of calories per day, manage to eat only once or twice per day, and little at that. No longer able to eat a full meal. Help!

Response from Dr. Dieterich

Now is a good time, while you are off medication to try lots of things. Get your testosterone checked if you are a man or a woman. If you are female, Megace would be worth a try. If you are a male, testosterone supplementation with anabolic agents like oxandrolone often help appetite and body habitus. Also spend some time with your dietician.Douglas T. Dieterich, M.D.
