Travel Safety
Mar 2, 2009

My partner and I will be traveling to Puerto Vallarta next month. We are both positive, healthy, on medication and monogamous. We were wondering if we should be taken any extra precautions to protect our health? Any thoughts on this issues would be helpful. Thank you for your time.

I love Puerto Vallarta. Very gay friendly, safe and people are nice.

I would keep away from vegetables and fruits and drink only bottled water, although most fancy hotels have water treatment units. Just focus on cooked foods, nothing raw.

I have been there 6 times and have only gotten sick once.

You can also ask your doctor to prescribe Xifaxan, a drug approved for travelers diarrhea, and/or Flagyl just in case so that you can take them with you. I also take imodium with me in case (I am one of those who carries a pharmacy with me when I travel)

You will love the place. It is magical and the "blue chairs" beach is great.
