group therapy
Dec 4, 1997

Are there any resources available with guidelines/ research on group treatment for PWA's or HIV+ people? Having a difficult time trying to locate info.

Response from Mr. Shernoff

I am not sure what you mean by guidelines. The empirical and anecdotal reports are that many people living with HIV and AIDS derive enormous benefit from attending support groups with other people living with HIV/ AIDS. Many other people do not adjust well to a group environment and manage to cope well and even thrive without ever attending a support group. If there is an AIDS service organization near to where you live, call them to inquire where groups are conducted. Another resource is the CDC has an 800 number you could call at 1.800.232.4636 to find out about AIDS Service organizations near where you live.

Michael Shernoff, MSW
