There is no one way that all or most people respond to learning that they are infected with HIV. For many individuals having a depressive or anxious reaction to being diagnosed with a potentially life threatening illness is one normal phase that they go through and generally, but not always move out of. When people have HIV neuro-psychiatric impairment part of the symptomology may include symptoms of depression or heightened anxiety. I hope that this is helpful. Michael Shernoff, MSW | |||||||||
