2 days post-exposure RNA test positive - is this possible?

Jun 18, 2017

Hello Doc. After having received oral sex on a later Friday, I went to get tested (for all STDs), first thing Monday morning. Tests come back and show positive for HSV-1 (cold sores), NEGATIVE for HIV1/HIV2 Ag Ab w/screen reflex but, positive for HIV RNA ! Freaking out...could this be a false positive? is HIV RNA (quant, pcr) this sensitive (2 days post exposure)? also, next to the test result it says less than 1.3 log10 copies - what does this mean? thank you Doc, really appreciated.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

No conclusion can be made about HIV test results at this time. Repeat testing is required.
