Support for teenager with HIV
Aug 26, 2012
Our 17 year old son told us this spring that he was HIV positive. We were able to find him excellent medical care and he is doing a super job taking his medicines. We can see that he would benefit from connecting with peers with HIV. We are looking for recommendations on such groups and counseling in NYC.
Response from Dr. Fawcett
Thanks for writing. I'm sorry to hear about your son's status but relieved that he has been linked with excellent medical care, is adhering to his regimen, and has such supportive parents. You are fortunate to live in an area with great resources.
Check out adolescentaids.org for some referrals. GMHC's services for youth and Callen-Lorde offer services for gay adolescents. Even if your son is not gay, I am sure they could direct you toward other appropriate programs.
