|What is the best medication for treatment of severe pain associated with HIV/AIDS
Feb 18, 2011
I have been on hydrocodone 10mg/325 (tylenol)for several years. My fear is that all the Tylenol that I am ingesting nearly 3230 mg of Tylenol with Hydrocodone to simply be able to get out of bed in the morning due to severe back pain as well as generalized pain. Doctors simply don't understand the pain that keeps me from living a life that I want to live.
I am in constant pain without pain medications. I started seeing a new doctor to try to find a pain medication that does not contain Motrin, Tylenol or asperin which could possibly cause problems with my liver, kidneys, etc. There seems to be nothing out there with the exception of Morphine, Dilauded or Demerol. Please tell me there is something with Hydrocodone, which works well, that doesn't contain the extra meds cause my body to mask fevers, but I don't need.

There are numerous meds including other narcotics (long acting forms often better), nerve type meds (such as gabpentin), CNS type adjuvants (such as lorazepam or amitryptiline), NSAIDs (like naproxen), acupunture, physical therapy and other modalities. A comprehensive evaluation including by a pain specialist can be useful to help out patients who have chronic pain. KH
