help
Oct 9, 2008

I married a man in 1999 and left in the year 2000 two years later i found out he was dying of aids and died. I got tested right after i found out and it was neg. been tested serval times after. I just gave blood 2 months ago 2008 and got my card. so i assuming that they check it for hiv. do i still have to worry? The heath department told me that it had been 2yrs and it would show if i had it and that the test they had nowadays they would find it that was in 2002 .is this true? please let me know and thanks victoria

Response from Dr. Horwath

Yes, the health department is correct. The test you took in 2002 confirmed that you are negative. You were not infected with HIV from your ex-husband.

If you always use condoms when having sex, you should remain HIV negative.
