| False Positive anxiety.. Sep 7, 2008 Hello. I will be brief.. I had a positive ora-sure advance hiv 1/2 test come up positive.. the follow up test was a standadr elisa that was negative (they didint run a western blot though!?) the clinic had me come back after six months for another rapid test and it was negative.. I also had a test through lab corp a year out that read hiv 1/0/2 non-reactive.. Question.. I am still very afraid.. should i test more or have i covered it all... The clinic says enough.. But, 9 years ago i had an exposure with a girl from Africa and that has me worried about the one "positive' test.. I am going crazy.. please help Thank you so much |

Response from Dr. Horwath
A positive test on the OraSure Advance HIV test must be considered preliminary until confirmed by a more specific test, such as Western blot. Your other tests have all been negative, so you can be confident that your negative. Of course, the way to avoid this type of worry is to avoid exposure to unprotected sex. Always use condoms! | ||||||||||
