Work & HIV
Aug 16, 2008

I would like to know how an office enviroment and possibly work related stress would influence a person living with HIV. I work in an open plan office enviroment and I am sure like most there are a lot of negativity in and around the work place. Personally it feels like this constant negative enviroment is starting to influence me personally more and more.

Response from Dr. Horwath

I imagine all work environments have their share of both positive and negative elements. I cannot comment on the merits of your particular workplace. However, in general, work has enormous psychological benefits. It provides a sense of purpose, accomplishment and self-esteem. It gives structure and organization to one's time. It provides daily social interaction and opportunities to learn. And, of course, work pays the bills and offers health insurance and other benefits.

There is no such thing as work without stress, but having a job provides more positive than negative influences for most people.
