hiv/aids

Jun 15, 2008

what is the life expectancy of people with hiv/aids?

Response from Dr. Horwath

There is no way to predict the life expectancy of someone only on the basis of having HIV. For an individual person, we are not able to predict with any certainty how long they will live.

What we do know is that the currently available treatments have enormously decreased the mortality from HIV infection. Many people are able to lead relatively healthy lives for long periods of time with HIV infection.

Remember, none of us is guaranteed a long life. We all live with the uncertainty of not knowing when our time will come. This is equally true for those with and those without HIV infection.
