 If his dementia is caused by HIV (which it probably is), then the best therapy is highly-active antiretroviral treatment (HAART). I have seen many patients with HIV-associated dementia respond to HAART with substantial improvements in their memory and other aspects of their thinking. However, he should be examined by a doctor to make sure that there is not another cause for his cognitive impairment, like a bacterial or fungal infection of his brain or some other medical condition. | |||||||||
