| My brother is dieing Oct 27, 2007 Hi, My brother is 45 yrs old and was put in the hospital on Monday. He can barely breath and refuses to let the doctors treat him. He stop taking his HiV meds and just is deteriating at a fast pace. It's like he has lost control of everthing and has fallen into a deep depression believing everyone just wants to harm him at the hospital. My mother is elderly and if he dies my mom will be sure to follow. It is take a toll on my mom she just crys. I don't know what to do, I have talked to my brother and just tells me they are trying to kill him at the hospital. What can we do about his metal state? How can we get him under control so he can let the doctors treat him. I have asked him if he wants to die and he told me no and I do believe he is very scared to die and he thinks he will die if he lets the doctors help him. All of our family feel we are just letting him die or should I say letting him kill himself. I am looking for someone who has been through this episode or a family member of someone who has gone through this who can talk to my brother before it is to late. My brother is in a Roseville, CA Hospital. I am going to try and call some hotlines maybe they can put me in touch with someone who is living with HIV who can possibly go talk with him. Thank you |

Response from Dr. Horwath
If your brother is willing, have him speak to a psychiatrist. Perhaps a psychiatrist can develop some trust and offer some psychiatric treatment that might help to feel less frightened and depressed, and more trusting. If he is not willing to accept treatment at this time, there is very little else that you can do. | ||||||||||
