| Am I A Bad Person? Aug 22, 2007 I recently began dating someone whom, tomy knowledge, is HIV Negative. I am HIV Positive. Feelings are growing strong and the relationship seems to be growing fast. I have not had sexual encounters with him as of yet. I have decided not to disclose my status due to many fears. These include but are not limited to fear of loosing him, rejection and the possibility of my information being shared with individuals I do not approve of. I have made it clear to him that when we do have sexual relationships it will always be protected because I feel safe sex is a must for me. So......Is my way of thinking wrong? Does this make me a bad person? |

Response from Dr. Horwath
Your decision to only have protected sex is a good one. However, if you're going to have an intimate sexual relationship with someone, you owe it to them to be honest and open about your HIV status. Your fears of losing him, rejection and loss of privacy are understandable. But the idea of not disclosing your status is dishonest. By not disclosing your status, you are not giving your partner the opportunity to choose, to make an informed decision about having sex with you. Consider if the tables were turned. Would you rather be informed about the status of your partner or not? | ||||||||||
