Foreigner with problems
Jul 19, 2007

I was diagnosed last year with HIV. My bf was unaware of his status. I'm a foreigner working in the US on an H1-B visa. My home country is South Africa. I have the issue now of not being able to get a green card unless I marry a woman plus my family is at home. I don't know if I can tell my mom over the phone. I feel like I'm distancing her. I can't go back home due to the meds at home being behind everything in the US. So I really don't know what to do. I love my life and friends here and have worked so hard. What to do? I just feel a little helpless and alone...

Response from Dr. Horwath

You have some difficult decisions to make. It sounds like you want to stay in the U.S. If you don't want to put a distance betwee you and your mom, then you'll need to tell her
