Can ambition be supportive?
Jul 2, 2007

Dear doctor Horwath,

First my apologies for my English, it's not my mother tongue.

I found out to be positive in december and i really was shocked. It was so unexpected. Immediatly i started to educate myself on hiv and i also looked at profiles of high profile hiv patients.

I noticed that folks like Magic Johnson, Chris Smith, Edwin Cameron in fact are doing well.

These people seem to have a set high ambitions and they have the drive to achieve their personal goals.

Do you regard serious ambition and taking initiative benificial to the health of an hiv positive patient?

Regards, Zeb

Response from Dr. Horwath

Taking initiative regarding your health and the direction of your life is important for everyone. The people who are HIV+ and doing well are those who are committed to their health and seek out appropriate medical care to help them remain healthy. This also means avoiding drugs, excessive alcohol, resting, eatting properly and getting some exercise, and taking care of your friendships and other important relationships. All of these goals require great motivation and initiative.
