emotional effects of hiv aids

Jun 8, 2007

how is the person infected affected emotionally by this desease and what causes them to be affected in this way?

Response from Dr. Horwath

The emotional effects of HIV vary from person to person. Anxiety, anger, sadness and fear are very common reactions, but some people are very adaptive and find ways to cope with these feelings. In many ways, the adjustment to HIV infection is similar to that for other serious, chronic or life-threatening illnesses. Learning about HIV, its manifestations and its treatment can be very important parts of adapting to having HIV infection.
