Okay to be anxious
Jun 6, 2007

I had my first HIV test recently and I was freaking out. I had always practiced safe hetero sex but the stress of the test made me convinced it would be positive, even if it was statistically highly, highly unlikely. This forum gave me a lot of good info, but I also read about a lot of people who had been suffering from this anxiety for years. Finding out my test was negative was such an enormous relief. I only worried about this for a week or two, but if your unknown status is a constant source of stress, really, just go and do it. Being tested won't affect your status, it will just give you the facts. And that is always better than not knowing. Always. Just go and do it.

Response from Dr. Horwath

I couldn't agree more.
