what is the period of time the first symtoms can appear?

Response from Dr. Horwath

The average time period between initial infection with HIV and onset of illness is about 10 years in people who do not start antiretroviral treatment. If someone with HIV starts treatment when their T cells fall, they may delay illness onset indefinitely. Some people develop symptoms like swollen lymph nodes or weight loss before becoming overtly ill.
