hallucinations
May 4, 2006

Do people with AIDS hallucinate? or doe the illness affect their brains? My sister was diagnosed about three years ago, but only told us two days ago, when she started to speak like she was out of this world!she seems to be having delusions

Response from Dr. Horwath

Yes, HIV does affect the brain significantly in about 20% of people. Some people who develop AIDS dementia will develop severe symptoms, like hallucinations and mental confusion.
