MISSION TO DIE
Apr 8, 2006

MY HUSBAND OF 20 YRS GOT DIAGNOSED 3 YRS AGO. HE HAS HEPC AND HIV. NOW HE HAS A RESISTANCE. HE WANTS TO DIE. ( DOESNT TAKE MEDS REGULAR, DRINKS HEAVILY AND HAS BEEN VERY RISKY IN HAVING SEX WITH ME. IF HE CHOOSES TO DIE, HOW LONG WILL THIS TAKE. IS THIS NORMAL OR COMMON? WHAT CAN OR SHOULD I DO? IM LOSING MY MIND.

Response from Dr. Horwath

Your husband is depressed and has a problem with alcohol abuse. He needs treatment for his depression and alcohol problem. His behavior now is self-destructive and is part of his depression and alcohol problem. He needs help. With psychiatric treatment, he may develop some hope of living, start taking his meds regularly and improve. Even with viral resistance to one or two drugs, there is still a hope of response to other medications.
