Response from Dr. Horwath
People who are developing dementia often will have symptoms such as short term memory loss early in their illness. Short term memory loss refers to an impairment in remembering information learned within the past few days. People with short term memory loss will often have excellent memory for events in the more distant past, and may tell detailed stories of specific past events. Maybe this is what you mean by being stuck in a certain date. The most important information to find out is the cause for the memory problem, because some causes are quite treatable. For example, the dementia that is associated with AIDS will often improve greatly if the affected person responds well to antiretroviral medications. | |||||||||
