Afraid of brother's death
Jan 12, 2006

my brother is in his advanced stages of aids his arm has been amputated an now they are going to amputate his leg. He's weak and often unable to hold anything down I'm starting to fear the worst can I be right?

Response from Dr. Horwath

I have no way of knowing exactly how ill your brother is without knowing further details. Amputation of limbs may be necessary due to circulatory problems, diabetes, severe infections or other causes. However, amputation in many cases may be life-saving.

It certainly sounds like your brother is severely ill, but you should not abandon hope. Severely ill people sometimes recover. Perhaps his doctors can give a better idea about his prognosis.
