anxiety or hiv infection?

Oct 28, 2005

Dear any expert,

I am deeply convinced that I have ruined my life whether its due to anxiety or HIV. How?

In August 2000 I had one (1) unprotected sex with a young married woman. Three years later (in 2003), the woman became extremely sick, emaciated and died eventually. Her parents said she had cirrhosis and severe hemorrhoid, but I am convinced she had aids. Since then, I started getting sick. And from 2003 up to where I am e-mailing you now, no single day has past without my assuming that I am HIV positive and my having some health trouble: headaches, nausea, joint and muscular pain, mouth ulcers, extreme fatigue.. I have given up all my plans and to wait for death.

My question could all this be because I am stressed? Can one continue to have symptoms for 3 whole years without even a months break? I read on some forums that severe stress can damage the immune system and cause health problems. Do I really have aids?

As the woman was married, I have been closely monitoring her former husband health who apparently has no problem. I have been reading all sorts f materials about chances of both sexes of getting infected, developing the disease. Please Dear any Expert, answer me, tell me something as soon as you can.

Thank so much for this forum.

Response from Dr. Horwath

Most of the symptoms you describe are fairly non-specific. You can solve all your worries by getting an HIV antibody test. That will tell you if you have HIV infection or not.

I'm always depressed
What if I disagree with my husband's therapist?
