OCD & HIV Meds
May 3, 2005

I am hiv poz; on epevir; viramune; and viread. I aslo have ocd and started taking celexa 60 mg. daily six monthas ago, but my ocd has not deminished. my psychiatrist said celexa was the safest med. he could give me with the least interaction with my hiv meds. I have heard that there may be other ocd meds that may be more effective in diminishing my ocd symptoms. Is it true that other ocd meds may have negative interactions with my hiv meds? What are the most successful meds to treat ocd?

Thanks.

Response from Dr. Horwath

Prozac (fluoxetine 20 - 80 mg/day) and Zoloft (up to 200 mg/day) are quite effective at treating OCD. Prozac and Zoloft have no significant interaction with the medications that you're taking.
