Nov 1, 2004
MY HUSBAN WAS TOLD @ THE HOSPITAL TODAY THAT HE HAD A RARE PNEUNIA PCP THEY GAVE US LITTLE TO NO INFO ON IT & REFERERD HIM TO A SPECAILIST. FOR A FOLLOW UP IN 7 DAYS BUT WE HAVE BOTH BEEN TESTED FOR HIV & NEITHER OF US HAVE IT. & I KNOW HE HASNT CHEATED & HE DOSE NOT USE NEEDLES/ DRUGS. WHAT ELES COULD CAUSE HIM TO GET THIS PCP WILL IT COME BACK? CAN WE PERVENT IT ? IS IT GOING TO BE LIKE THESE WEB SITES SAY OR WILL IT BE DIFFRENT??BECAUSE HE DOSE NOT HAVE HIV?
Response from Dr. Horwath
You may need to get a second opinion. PCP only occurs in people with imapired immunity. If your husband truly has PCP, then he must have some cause for the impaired immune status. He needs to be evaluated for HIV infection and other causes of immune disease.
