 The prognosis depends on many factors, such as the viral load, CD4 count, history of prior opportunistic infections or other complications, other medical conditions, HAART regimen, degree of adherence, response to HAART, substance abuse, nutrition, exercise, psychiatric disorder, strain of virus, etc. There are people who have been living with HIV infection for 20 years. HAART has only been available since about 1995, and there are survivors who have been on HAART since that time. What we know for sure is that HAART prolongs the life and decreases the likelihood of opportunistic infections for people with HIV infection. | ||||||||
