Obsessive Compulsive disorder and social contact with hiv-friend?Oct 30, 2004 Hi! I have a friend who has been working 5 weeks in a hospital in south africa. There he worked in a heart and lung section for children. During his stay he slept with a girl (that he met. She worked as a waitress) but used a condom. How afraid should he be for having contracted hiv? How afraid should I be when visiting him, talking to him etc? I frequently have small wounds on my hands as I suffer from obsessive compulsory disorder (therefore wash my hands very frequently). |

![]() | Response from Dr. HorwathIf he used the condom correctly (put it on properly before inserting, and withdrew while securing the condom) then he should not be afraid. As for visiting your friend, you are not at risk unless you handle blood or other body fluids with open wounds on your hands. | ||||||||
