HIV symptoms
Jan 11, 2009

I became very ill last August. My symptoms included chronic vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, cold night sweats, and extreme fatigue. I went to the hospital and they tested me for mono and strep throat and both came back negative. The doctor gave me a shot of penicilin and 2 IV's for re-hydration and I felt better. I was under a lot of stress at the time and contributed this illness to over-stressing myself but I also considered the possibility of HIV infection. At the hospital, I had a very high white blood cell count and, since then, I have read that a high-white blood cell count is not an indicator of HIV. Is this correct?

A very high white blood cell count in adults is usually indicative of a bacterial infection, but NOT of HIV infection.
