Bong use= HIV infection?
Jan 11, 2009
Hello doctor,
A couple days ago I was smoking weed through a bong with a few of my friends, and during that time I had a cut on my lip, none of the other guys had a cut on their lip, but I was wondering if the bong they were using was somehow used by an HIV positive person before me, and it somehow may have (god forbid) spread the hiv virus to me?
Can HIV be spread through bong use, even though with a glance I didn't see any noticeable blood on the bong?
Thanks,
Jake

Response from Dr. Horwath

HIV is not spread by casual environmental contact like you describe.
