Response from Dr. Currier
The term "full blown AIDS" or an AIDS diagnosis refers to conditions that can occur when T cells drop belw 200 cells. There have been people who have experienced drops in T cells belwo 200 acutely after being infected and some have developed PCP an AIDS defining diagnosis. The future course of HIV in people who experience these severe drops in T cells early on is not well described. It is hoped that the early use of antiretroviral therapy during acute retroviral syndrome would prevent large drops in T cells. Hope this helps. -JC | |||
