| Some questions Dec 24, 1997 What does mean immunotherapy? Are there any treatments that could improve the immune system itself, for example increase the produce of white cells without taking antiretroviral medicines. If hiv destroies cd 4 cells, why it is not possible to just transplant more cells in to your blood? What is your opinion about the duration of the effectiveness of the drugs used to prevent hiv in blood. We do have only few years experience. This is especially worrying me because I have not started any medication yet. Please forgive me if my lanquage is not correct, english is not my mother lanquage. |

Response from Dr. Currier
Immunotherapy refers to treatments that are directed at improving the Immune system. There are several types of Immune based therapy in development aimed at increasing CD4 (T cells). A combination of antiretroviral therapy and Immune based therapy may ultimately prove to be the best approach. This remains an area of active investigation. Judith Currier, M.D. | |||
