Truvada/Tivicay

Oct 12, 2017

Hell Doctor,

I had an exposure (insertive vaginal) with someone of unknown status. About 68 hours post-incident, my doctor put me on a PEP regimen of Truvada and Tivicay, each pill taken once daily. Is this dosing schedule correct? I've seen where Isentress is twice daily, so I'm concerned that maybe the Tivicay should have also been the same. Thanks!

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for posting.

Your doctor is right about the dosing of Truvada and Tivicay. Both are dosed once-daily, and can be taken together, without regard to food.

By contrast, Isentress (another HIV integrase inhibitor) is dosed twice daily; there is a new formulation of the medicine, called Isentress HD which can be taken 2 pills, once-daily.

I hope that helps. BY
