Question about issentris

Oct 8, 2017

What if I took 2nd dose of issentris way to early by mistake thinking it was a vitamin. (About 4 hrs apart). Should I take tomorrow's dose at same time as usual? Will I have a bad reaction. And will that be enough to make me resist it?

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for posting.

You'll be fine. Taking the twice-daily Isentress formulation a little closer in time won't cause any virologic problems (indeed, even if not recomended, some patients do take them together) side effects. I'd simply take tomorrow's dose on schedule as usual.

There's now a FDA-approved once-daily formulation of raltegravir, called Isentress HD (it's two 600 mg pills taken once daily). If you're having problems with your second twice-daily Isentress dose, you might ask your healthcare provider if this is an option for you.

Be well, BY
