Drinking cocoa with my hiv meds.
Aug 15, 2017

I am on Truvada and Tivicay for hiv. Would drinking cocoa with my coffee after I take my meds cause a problem with my medications?

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for posting.

It's important to be mindful of any dietary requirements for medications. Some HIV medications should be taken with food, others can be taken with- or without regard to food.

In your case, neither Truvada (or its cousin, Descovy) and Tivicay (dolutegravir) have any dietary requirements, so it's perfectly ok to drink your hot chocolate or morning cup of Joe.
