Oatmeal with a side of Triumeq

Apr 28, 2017

Hey Doc, thanks for everything you do!

I take my Triumeq like 10 minutes before I eat my morning oatmeal. Is this ok?

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for posting.

Dolutegravir-containing treatments (Tivicay or Triumeq) can be taken with or without food. So taking your pill before your morning oatmeal (or anything or anytime else) is perfectly ok.

Among the other HIV integrase inhibitors, raltegravir (Isentress) can similarly be taken without regard to food. Elvitegravir (found in Genvoya and Stribild) must be taken with food to ensure absorption of the medication.
