Oct 29, 2016

I been testing for eight years now i recently found u that i am HIV positive and my CD4 count is 280.and long i was infacted and how to upper my CD4 in proper condition to be heathy

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for posting.

Your CD4 count is relatively low (the lower limit of normal is usually considered to be around 350). It's impossible to know based on most lab tests to know when you were infected, but simple logic would say sometime between your last negative test and now.

HIV medications today work extremely well in restoring and protecting health. They're well tolerated and rarely cause toxicity. Indeed, the World Health Organization and multiple countries around the world (including those as varied as the US, Brazil, Spain and South Africa) all recommend HIV treatment for all people living with the virus. Treatment can allow a normal life expectancy and high quality of life. Moreover, with an undetectable viral load on treatment, passing the virus to others is virtually impossible.

Be well, BY
