T cell count and viral load
May 14, 2016

T cell count 61 viral load 250k AIDS? Also just recently had thrush and rash

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for posting.

AIDS is defined by either having a CD4 count less than 200 (you do), or having any one of several indicator illnesses (but isolated thrush alone isn't). Viral load, while the preferred way of monitoring the effectiveness of treatment, alone is not a way to determine the severity of HIV disease or risk of complication. AIDSInfoNet.org has a simple fact sheet on "what is AIDS"?

With your CD4 cell count and AIDS diagnosis, it's imperative that you be engaged (and retained) in medical care, and be prescribed (and adhere to) HIV medications (antiretroviral treatment, ART). Hopefully this is your situation.

I hope that helps, and feel free to write me back here at TheBody.com's Forum. BY
