Is it safe to lose weight it you are hiv positive

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for posting.

If you're overweight, then it's not only safe, but a good idea to loose weight. Indeed, in our analysis from the HIV Outpatient Study, over 30% of adults in care were obese.

One way to know if you're overweight is to calculate your body mass index, or BMI. No matter what, it would be a good idea to discuss your weight and health with your care provider before embarking on a weight control program.

I hope that's helpful, BY
