Drug interuption

Oct 22, 2015

Hi dr Young. I have been positive for 2 years and undetectable for about a year. I am on Truvada/Ritonavir/Atazanavir at nights. On wednesday i had an impromptu trip. I missed a dose wednesday night, thursday night i got access to truvada & Nevirapine/? combination. Friday my original night dose. Saturday missed but took it sunday morning, and sunday night dose. I am so worried about resistance. Any advice??

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for posting.

With modern regimens (especially boosted PI ones), the risk of drug resistance is very, very low.

If you have an inadequate amount of medicines, the best thing to do is to simply stop all meds until your supply is back. Missing every other dose, or mixing in other medications is rarely a good idea- and actually unnecessary.

Hope that's helpful, BY
