inflammation of knees, calves

Jun 24, 2015

My daughter's knees start swelling with severe pain, she struggles to walk. Must I get her tested for cpk level? Does allergies contribute to this condition? What medication can she take for this?

Response from Mr. Vergel

You should have her doctor refer her to a rheumatologist

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for posting.

There are many possible reasons why your daughter's knees hurt, though allergies are unlikely to be the cause. It's difficult to give you specific advice, analgesics like acetaminophen or ibuprofen can be helpful in the short term, but if the symptoms persist more than a week, I'd strongly suggest that she be evaluated by her care provider.

Hope that's helpful, BY
