Orange Juice
Jan 1, 2015

When I started taking HIV medications, I was told to never take them with grapefruit juice. Is orange juice okay?

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and Happy New Year.

First off, grapefruit juice only interacts with a handful of HIV medications. If you happen to be taking one of these, it's ok to have an occasional glass of grapefruit juice. A list of the possible interactions and their potential severity can be found here.

Second, there is no problem whatsoever with orange juice and drug-drug interactions.
