Question regarding progression
Dec 16, 2014

Hi please reply, my friend is HIV positive 2 adults the same age, if Person A is injected with 400ml of HIV contaminated blood and Person B is injected with 200ml of HIV contaminated blood will person B get serious effects of the disease before person A?

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for the interesting question.

The rate of HIV disease progression is usually not related to the volume of infected body fluid that one's exposed to. Typically, infection is only established by a limited number of virus from the exposure.
