Using contact lenses
Sep 23, 2014

I have been positive for 3 years now and on treatment with undetectable viral load for 2.5 years. My CD 4 is around 550 range. I wonder is it safe to use contact lenses. I read that positive people have a higher risk of eye infection with contact lenses use. Is it safe to use contact lens such as daily, weekly and monthly types?

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for posting.

With a normal CD4 count and undetectable viral load, your health risks are essentially the same as a HIV-uninfected person. This certainly applies to the use of contact lenses.
