Is crestor compatabile with the combination of botanical extracts & concentrates found in Biotics Research Porphyra-Zyme
Response from Dr. Young
Hello and thanks for posting.
My first question is why you want to take a product with unproven claims of effectiveness or safety. The porphyrin compounds found in the product are thought to help chelate certain types of metals, and therefore be beneficial in health. The problem with this is at least two-fold. First, many metals, like zinc and iron are actually important in health. Second, there's just no clinical data that says that taking this actually helps, or is safe.
The blue-green algae from which the Porphyra-Zyme is derived has been reviewed by the National Library of Medicine. Who conclude about blue-green algae, "insufficient evidence to rate effectiveness." They have mixed reviews about the safety of such products. So on balance, let's see, unproven effectiveness, unproven safety and untested, but possible drug-drug interactions (with Crestor or other medications).
I'd save the money. BY
