How to reduce Viral Load
Apr 9, 2014

Dear Dr Benjamin, I am on 1. Tenvir EM 2. Efavirenz 600mg but my viral load never reduce. My viral Load now is 2490ml copies. Please help

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for posting.

Answering your question requires a few more details. For example, how long have you been on your medications? Have you been adherent to the regimen? What was your baseline viral load or drug resistance test results (if measured)?

We usually expect viral loads to reach undetectable levels with efavirenz-based treatments within 4-6 months after starting. If you've been on treatment this long, I'd be concerned that your response isn't optimal- this could be because of poor adherence or drug resistance, or perhaps laboratory error.

Please feel free to write back with any details, BY
