Mar 17, 2014

HI Dr Young, Thank you for your reply. i have few more questions to ask about her. Doctor has advised her to take this CEPODEM-A20 as an antibiotic and also informed her to not to eat food which gives heat to body such as chicken, dates, egg such things. She eat little food and later after 15 or 20 minutes she says she feels hungry, she has headache more frequently.she is taking FORSTAVIR-3 at night 9pm. she takes fruits like watermelon, pomegranate, orange, apple, chiku, grapes & also cucumbers & in vegetables we giving her carrots, beetroot, spinach, tomato. she takes it raw or sometimes juices as well. Could you please suggest me what we are taking is good and if you advice her few more things to recover as soon as possibe. Thanks & Regards,

Response from Dr. Young

Hello and thanks for posting.

I'm not sure why your sister's doctor has recommended Cepodem- if I'm correct, it's a cephalosporin antibiotic (cepodoxime). With her very low CD4 cell count, she should be taking trimetnoprim sufla (a different antibiotic) for prevention of pneumonia. The US Guidelines for the prevention and treatment of opportunistic infections has more information.

I'd encourage her to eat a well balanced diet, and with her advanced condition, try to avoid anything that would restrict her caloric intake. I've never heard of restriction to chicken, dates or eggs. Also, a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, as you've listed would be good.

Hope that's helpful, BY

Response from Mr. Vergel

I agree with Dr Young. Our immune system requires protein. Restricting her protein consumption makes no sense.

Nelson
