| Response from Dr. Young
Hello and thanks for posting.
HIV is curable. Not yet for everyone, but the field continues to make great progress, particularly among infants. Imagine a world eradicated of pediatric HIV. It can happen.
Last year we learned about the "Mississippi baby", cured of HIV with early initiation of triple drug treatment of her HIV. This week at the CROI conference in Boston, we learned of a second infant, the "California baby", apparently cured using the same basic, simple strategy. The challenge is trying to determine if the virus lingers in sanctuaries and when to stop treatment.
